🎬 Muddy Moose Movies: Movie Review: Obsession (2026)
Every once in a while, a movie comes along that reminds Hollywood you don’t need a $200 million budget to make a film people can’t stop talking about.
Obsession is that movie.
Made for around $1 million, this original horror-thriller has become one of the biggest box office surprises of 2026, earning hundreds of millions worldwide and proving that great ideas still matter.
The premise is simple but unsettling: a lonely young man makes a supernatural wish for the woman he loves to love him back… and quickly discovers that getting exactly what you wished for can become your worst nightmare.
What makes Obsession work isn’t just the scares—it’s the creeping sense of dread. Instead of relying on constant jump scares, the film slowly builds tension, making viewers increasingly uncomfortable as the story unfolds. There’s even a surprising amount of dark humor mixed into the horror, which helps keep the pacing fresh. Critics have praised the film for blending horror, romance, comedy, and psychological suspense into something that feels genuinely original.
The breakout performance belongs to Inde Navarrette, whose transformation throughout the movie is both disturbing and memorable. Director Curry Barker, making the leap from YouTube creator to feature filmmaker, also deserves plenty of credit for delivering a polished, confident film on such a tiny budget.
That said, the movie isn’t perfect.
The first act moves a little slower than it probably needs to, and a few story beats could have been developed more. If you’re expecting nonstop gore or wall-to-wall action, this isn’t that kind of horror movie. It’s much more interested in creating an unsettling atmosphere than overwhelming you with shock value.
Still, that’s exactly why it stands out.
In a year dominated by sequels, remakes, and established franchises, Obsession feels refreshingly original. It’s creepy, clever, occasionally funny, and keeps you thinking long after the credits roll.
DOOZYDOO Score: 4 out of 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Final Verdict
If you enjoy psychological horror with an original premise and a slow-building sense of unease, Obsession is absolutely worth seeing. It earns its reputation as one of 2026’s biggest surprise hits—not just because of its incredible box office success, but because it delivers an experience that’s genuinely different.
Make Life Awesome… and maybe don’t wish for something you can’t take back. 😉
