🍗 3-Ingredient Crispy French Onion Chicken: Crunchy, Juicy & Ridiculously Easy
Three ingredients. Crispy chicken. Almost no effort. This is exactly the kind of recipe we want for DOOZY DELISH. You take chicken breasts, coat them in crushed crispy fried onions, bake until golden and suddenly you’ve made something that looks like you put considerably more effort into dinner than you actually did. 😂And we’re keeping this one beautifully simple.

🍗 Just 3 Ingredients
You’ll need:
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups crispy fried onions
That’s it. If your chicken breasts are particularly thick, pound or slice them to a fairly even thickness. They’ll cook more evenly and you’ll get more crispy onion goodness in every bite.
🫎 DOOZY TIP
Put the crispy onions in a zip-top bag and crush them with your hands or a rolling pin. You want small crunchy pieces, not onion dust.
🔥 How to Make Crispy French Onion Chicken
1. Crush Those Onions
Preheat your oven to 400°F. Add the crispy fried onions to a zip-top bag and crush them into coarse crumbs. Pour them onto a plate or shallow bowl.
2. Dip & Coat
Beat the egg in a separate shallow bowl. Dip each chicken breast into the beaten egg, allowing the excess to drip off. Then press the chicken firmly into the crushed onions. Don’t just sprinkle them on. Press those glorious little onion pieces onto both sides of the chicken so you get a proper crunchy coating.
3. Bake Until Crispy 🔥
Place the coated chicken on a lightly greased baking sheet or a wire baking rack set over a sheet pan. Bake at 400°F for approximately 20–25 minutes, depending on the thickness of your chicken. The important number isn’t the clock, though. Chicken should reach a safe internal temperature of 165°F, measured with a food thermometer. A good instant-read meat thermometer makes this ridiculously easy and keeps you from cutting every chicken breast in half trying to figure out whether it’s done.
4. Slice & DEVOUR 🤤
Let the chicken rest for a few minutes, then slice it. You should have:
🔥 Crispy onion crust
🍗 Juicy chicken inside
🧅 Big savory French-onion flavor
Three ingredients just pulled off dinner. Not bad.
😋 What Should You Serve With It?
This chicken works with pretty much any simple side dish.
Try it with:
🥔 Mashed potatoes
🥦 Roasted broccoli
🌽 Corn
🥗 Simple garden salad
🍚 Rice
🍟 Air fryer fries
And if we’re assembling the full DOOZY dinner? I’d absolutely pair it with our Loaded Air Fryer Potato Bites. Apparently we’re capable of showing restraint around potatoes only temporarily. 😂
🧀 Want to Make It Even Better?
The whole appeal is the three-ingredient simplicity, so you really don’t need anything else. But we’re also not the food police. Try adding:
🧀 Shredded Parmesan to the onion coating
🌶️ Cayenne or hot sauce for heat
🧄 Garlic powder for another savory kick
🌿 Fresh parsley after baking
🥣 French onion dip on the side
You could also add a slice of cheese during the final few minutes of baking. At that point we’ve abandoned the three-ingredient premise, but we’ve gained melted cheese, so emotionally I think we’ll recover.
❤️ Why We Love This Recipe
This is what DOOZY DELISH should be. Simple ingredients. Easy instructions. Food normal people will actually make. There’s no homemade breading station involving eleven bowls and a spice you’ve never heard of. Just:
DIP → COAT → BAKE → DEVOUR
And the crispy fried onions do almost all the flavor work for you.
Simple food. Seriously good.
