Easy Apple Pie Donut Holes: The Ridiculously Simple Fall Treat 🍎🍩
There are certain foods that just scream fall. Apple pie. Apple cider donuts. Warm cinnamon sugar.
And now we’re smashing a few of those wonderful things together because Apple Pie Donut Holes exist, and frankly, we’re not sure why we haven’t been making them all along. The best part? You only need two main ingredients to get started.
These little apple-filled bites are warm, crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside and covered in cinnamon sugar. Make them in the air fryer or oven and you’ve got an ridiculously easy fall dessert that’s perfect for movie nights, football weekends, Halloween parties or those chilly afternoons when you’ve decided eating something covered in cinnamon sugar qualifies as an autumn activity.
Around here, it does.
🍎 What You’ll Need
The Two Main Ingredients
- 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough
- 1 can apple pie filling
That’s it for the actual donut holes.
But we’re DOOZY DELISH, so naturally we’re going to make them better.
For the Cinnamon-Sugar Coating
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1–2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 2–3 tablespoons melted butter
You can adjust the cinnamon depending on how aggressively autumn has taken over your personality.
🍩 How to Make Apple Pie Donut Holes
Step 1: Prepare the Apple Filling
Spoon some apple pie filling onto a cutting board and chop the apple pieces into small chunks.
You want the pieces small enough to fit comfortably inside each dough ball without the whole operation exploding when you close it.
A little filling goes a long way.
Step 2: Prepare the Dough
Separate the biscuits and cut each one into smaller pieces.
Flatten each piece gently with your fingers until you have a small round of dough.
Step 3: Add the Apple Pie Filling
Place a small spoonful of chopped apple pie filling in the center.
Don’t overfill them.
We know.
More apple pie filling sounds better.
Physics disagrees.
Step 4: Make the Donut Holes
Pull the edges of the dough up and around the filling.
Pinch the seams tightly closed and gently roll the dough between your hands to create a ball.
Make sure that seam is sealed. Otherwise your delicious apple filling may attempt an escape during cooking.
🔥 Air Fryer Apple Pie Donut Holes
Preheat your air fryer to 350°F if your model recommends preheating.
Lightly grease the basket or use an air-fryer-safe liner.
Arrange the donut holes in a single layer, leaving some room between them for air to circulate.
Air fry for approximately 6–9 minutes, turning if necessary, until the dough is puffed and golden brown and cooked through.
Air fryers have apparently agreed never to cook exactly alike, so start checking them around the six-minute mark.
♨️ Oven-Baked Apple Pie Donut Holes
No air fryer?
Civilization continues.
Preheat your oven to 375°F.
Place the filled dough balls seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving a little space between each.
Bake for approximately 10–15 minutes, or until they’re golden brown and the dough is completely cooked through.
Cooking time can vary depending on the biscuit dough and size of your donut holes, so keep an eye on them toward the end.
✨ Now Comes the Good Part
While the donut holes are still warm, brush or lightly toss them with melted butter.
Combine the cinnamon and sugar in a bowl.
Roll each warm donut hole in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until completely coated.
And congratulations.
Your kitchen now smells like someone opened a bakery inside an apple orchard.
🍨 Want to Make Them Even More Ridiculous?
We support this decision.
Try serving your warm Apple Pie Donut Holes with:
- Vanilla ice cream
- Caramel sauce
- Warm maple syrup
- Whipped cream
- Powdered sugar
- Vanilla glaze
- Extra cinnamon sugar
For the full fall-dessert experience, put a few warm donut holes in a bowl, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzle caramel over everything.
At that point we’ve wandered pretty far from the concept of restraint.
We’re comfortable with that.
🍏 Easy Apple Pie Donut Hole Variations
Once you’ve mastered the basic version, there are plenty of ways to play around with it.
Caramel Apple Donut Holes
Add a tiny bit of caramel sauce with the apple filling or drizzle caramel over the finished donut holes.
Maple Cinnamon Donut Holes
Add a little maple syrup to your finished donut holes or make a simple maple glaze.
Extra-Cinnamon Apple Donut Holes
Sprinkle a little extra cinnamon over the apple filling before sealing the dough.
Apple Pie à la Mode
Serve several warm donut holes with vanilla ice cream and caramel.
This isn’t technically a variation so much as an excellent life decision.

These were practically engineered for a cool fall afternoon.
Pair them with:
- Hot apple cider
- Coffee
- Hot chocolate
- Chai
- Cold milk
- A fall cocktail or mocktail
Add a blanket, a Halloween movie and absolutely nowhere you need to be.

Sometimes the best treats are ridiculously simple.
Biscuit dough. Apple pie filling. Cinnamon sugar.
Warm.
Gooey.
Crispy.
Apple-y.
And dangerously easy to keep eating.
